Improving toe point in ballet requires consistent, well-structured foot stretching to build strength and flexibility. Dancers should focus on isolating each part of the foot while pointing the toes, moving from the ankle through the arch to the toes for better control. The piano stretch involves pressing each toe downward one at a time, which strengthens small muscles and improves coordination. Additionally, wrapping a hair elastic around the toes creates a gentle resistance stretch, helping develop strength and stability in a more performance-focused position.   • Face a wall with your arms out and hands flat against the wall. Step back with one foot and keep it flat on the floor while moving the other leg forward. Lean towards the wall until you feel a stretch. Hold for 30 seconds and perform 10 repetitions for each foot
  • Be sure not to overextend or push your limbs too hard or you could risk pulling or straining your muscle

Dealing With Stiffness in the Big Toe

Stiffness in the big toe is often caused by a form of arthritis that affects the joint at the base of the toe called hallux rigidus. It mainly affects the metatarsophalangeal, or MTP,  joint that connects the first long bone of the foot to the first bone of the toe. This joint plays a key role in walking and pushing off the ground. Over time, the cartilage, which is the smooth tissue that cushions joints, can wear down. This leads to pain and swelling and limits movement. People over 50 are more likely to develop big toe stiffness due to wear and tear. Symptoms include difficulty bending the toe, discomfort when walking, or a bump forming on top of the joint. A podiatrist can perform a physical exam, order X-rays, and prescribe medical treatment to reduce pain, improve joint motion, and slow joint damage. What Are Flat Feet?

Flatfoot is a condition in which the arch of the foot is depressed and the sole of the foot is almost completely in contact with the ground. About 20-30% of the population generally has flat feet because their arches never formed during growth.

Conditions & Problems:

Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis caused by a buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints, most commonly affecting the big toe. It mostly affects men because they tend to have higher uric acid levels throughout adulthood, while women are partly protected by estrogen until menopause. After menopause, women can also develop gout as uric acid levels rise. Symptoms include sudden intense joint pain, redness, swelling, warmth, and tenderness.
